A few years later made his first demo up to the first productions saw the light on the digital label Area 94, where in 2009 he released his first album "Threes Over The Wall". 2009 is an important year for Marcos who works as a member of the Tenax family, with the staff 'Reflex' and 'Metempsicosi' at the club 'La Canniccia' (Versilia) and manages to attract attention with its production by Javi Munoz (Privilege Ibiza) and David Moreno (IGR) in addition to the Ibiza Global Radio Network. The year 2010 was marked by a significant new partnership with the promising young Florentine factory Labella recordings: a breeding ground of new talent to watch! It's time now for a new release of Marcos Baiano, "Musica & Felicidade 02" (Labella Recordings)! We could not miss the opportunity to turn our questions and give the chance to our friends to find out more about the background of this 'Latin ' passion!
Hello Marcos, you are very young, at only twenty-four years old you have done already several publications and remix. What you think about the current generation of producers and DJs? As is easy to see there are a lot of young DJs and producers in the international scene, to tell the truth even younger than me. I must admit that sometimes I get the feeling of being already among the "old". From my point of view, the generation that I represent, as usual in the past, is divided into two categories: dj and producer. Unlike in the past, judging by what I see around, today to define yourself Dj it's enough to have a controller and a laptop. Sure it's great that 'mixing music' can be affordable for everyone, but the issue does not end at the technical level. It is not nice that many 'supposed' djs, in order to follow the trends or well-defined genres, end up to offer music programs poor of emotions. Basically to change everything it would be enough to deepen and broaden our horizons to what music really is, in the disco as elsewhere. It seems there are so many dj but only a few "fans" of music. At the same time, on the production side, the technology allows to those unfamiliar with the music to be able to compose music.... but to understand it, get inside and pull out the most authentic emotions offering unforgettable moments to the listeners is a matter of feeling, a virtue for which fortunately we do not have yet a software. It's true that today with very little you manage to get a good result but what I wonder is if at this point are the same computers to be the architects of today's musical landscape and not the people! It is said that the new generation today, has to work twice as DJ of the "past", for perhaps only half of the prize: what do you think about? I think that like elsewhere, also in the music, has already been done almost everything ... as it is usual to say, the notes are 7! Today the musical trends following one another in a dizzying rhythm, making it even more difficult the production work. Follow these trends to stay on the market seems to be unavoidable but you must do everything to not fall into banality. It's important to work hard to create a sound that is at the same time representative of the new scene and expression of a personal approach. Overall, i appreciate very much the influence of "black music", the use of vocals and grooves from funky, blues and jazz. Cover and re-edit are an established standard in every genre, but rarely they add anything new to the already said. When competing for recognition, the multiplication of actors on stage has made increasingly difficult to obtain lead roles. You just have to get in and compete. Before opening each program and start composing, we should try to open our heart and mind to every sound that has made our history. What are your thoughts on the current state of 'world music industry and what will come next? Currently without a doubt the "commercial" music has the upper hand. The trends from which I like to be inspired are 'the minority' but I feel that we are approaching a genre perfectly matching to the time in which we live. Very colorful, festive and cool. I have lived the last years of Italian techno-electronica scene, attending club of great importance as the Jaiss (Empoli), where it was promoted a great techno played by artists which today are the peak of the music global landscape. Something it's changing and i strongly feel from my crowd the urge to dance and to feel in a real party. It's very nice to see and hear that people are feeling the need for a bit of good and deserved 'felicidade'. I think this must be the future of music and parties. Would you like to work with some producers from the past? Who are your favorite today? No doubt I would enjoy the live music of Muddy Waters and Cab Calloway! For me, these artists are a great inspiration. I like to hear their personalities, their life experiences, the music that comes from their instruments and/or their voice. They were the precursor of all that goes in our ears today, through radio, television and occasionally in clubs. Regarding the current musicians, I really admire Luciano. With his talent as a percussionist he manages to make incredible use of drums creating a stunning and captivating rhythms that would make you dance at any time, also without the use of a kick drum. Here wins the musical knowledge, taste for rhythm and love for their own creations. But there are many others, as Prompt and its superlative release on 7noise. Or Daft Punk, that recycle their hits by creating truly unique mix where you always feels a new energy. They give a major example of what means to be able to continue their own history, their own music, giving to the public emotions through new musical journeys, confirming at the same time the own artistic identity. Musica & Felicidade 02 is the title of your latest publication on Labella Recordings: is the project developed in 'episodes'? What would we expect in the future from Marcos Baiano? Musica & Felicidade is a plan for future life. A sense of belonging, very strong, to my origins. It 's the vision of the music of my homeland (Salvador Do Bahia, Brazil), is something i have inside from decades even if i live thousands of miles away. We sings and we dances carefree, completely taken by the rhythm and beauty of the sounds which compose melodies and moments of life. Each song reflects hundreds of situations, it's like playing an old vinyl on the turntable to access the album of unforgettable memories. It will be a project in installments, in which each episode will contain every type of emotion. Always with all my love and passion to offer very interesting pieces of music. I hope one day I can look back and see that with seven notes and some drums, I was able to give some 'felicidade' and to offer much of the love that I've always been received. Because love, like music, belongs to everybody! |
